MERCED HIGH SPEED RAIL STATION AREA PLAN
The Downtown Merced high-speed rail station will be the most northerly station in the Central Valley area of California's high-speed rail network. In 2015, the City contracted with Hatch Mott MacDonald and Michael Baker to draft a station area plan for Merced's HSR station. The City and local community's goals for the Station Area Plan project include a design that maximizes efficiency for all modes used for the “first and last mile” access, encouraging alternative modes of transportation, and stimulating and encouraging economic activity through sustainable development. Given the controversial nature of this project, engagement, education, and transparency are vital to this process. As part of the team, I created a project logo/look and feel, and assisted with development of land use alternatives, maps, and outreach materials such as flyers and workshop activity posters designed to actively solicit input and involvement by a diverse cross section of the community.
